Wrong Genre Circus
Our Manifesto
Get it wrong on purpose.

Mission
The Wrong Genre Circus takes familiar songs out of their assigned genres to make room for creative risk, vocal play, and unexpected discovery. We give singers permission to get it wrong on purpose—because when “right” stops running the room, something more honest can step into the spotlight.
What we believe under the tent
Curiosity outranks correctness.
We’re more interested in “What happens if...?” than “Is this how it’s supposed to sound?”
Get it wrong on purpose.
Wrong isn’t failure here. It’s a creative instrument—a way around habit, fear, imitation, and everything we already know how to do.
Experimentation counts as success.
Not every attempt will be beautiful. Every honest attempt will teach us something. The discovery is the point; applause is gravy.
Honor the song. Don’t embalm it.
We treat songs with attention, intelligence, and affection—not obedience. Respecting the source doesn’t mean preserving it behind glass.
Make the room brave enough for play.
Creative risk requires trust. We welcome the strange, the unfinished, the vulnerable, and the gloriously ill-advised—without judgment or cruelty.
Find your voice beneath the voices you’ve borrowed.
Imitation can teach us, but it isn’t the destination. We use disguise, character, and genre to uncover something unmistakably our own.
No one owns the “right” way in.
Virtuosity is welcome, but it is not the price of admission. Instinct, nerve, imagination, and willingness belong under this tent too.
Our Manifesto
We strip the familiar naked and dress it in something it was never meant to wear.
We throw “right” songs into “wrong” genres—not to ridicule what they were, but to discover what else they might become.
Here, songs raid the genre closet and play dress-up. Singers step outside imitation. Strange ideas get a spotlight. Beautiful accidents are allowed to finish happening.
We believe a song can survive being questioned, dismantled, disguised, stretched, seduced, roughed up, and loved into an entirely different shape.
We believe creative courage doesn’t always sound polished. Sometimes it cracks. Sometimes it growls. Sometimes it falls spectacularly on its ass—and gets up knowing something it couldn’t have learned by playing safe.
Leave judgment outside the tent.
Bring curiosity, nerve, imagination, and a willingness to sound like an idiot.
You may leave sounding more like yourself.
